Under the Sea

When most people think of mermaids, they think of scaly tails and seashell bras where as I think of soft pastel colors, delicate lace, ruffles, and shimmering pearls. These unconventional thoughts all stem from Chanel and Versace's Spring 2012 shows. Although these shows were on the runway almost 2 years ago, I can't help but think back to their whimsical charm and simplicity ever so often. Obviously these sirens of the sea weren't first introduced to fashion world in these particular shows, but this was the first time they were haloed in a more subtle way. Both shows demonstrated underwater luxury through minimalist sea-themed looks. I've been using the fresh ocean palette in a lot of my outfits recently, and thought I'd share it with you. Hopefully this post will refresh your memory of the fabulous underwater style that both Karl Lagerfeld and Donna Versace shared with us a few seasons back.

And of course, each show had their own covetable ocean-themed bag!

Tim Walker's Fantasy World

I was first introduced to fashion photographer Tim Walker's work in a feature section in Vogue a few years back. His airy, unconventionally whimsical pictures were enthralling. His photographs evoke the kind of magical dream world that I sometimes fantasize about where I live in an abandoned manor in the south of france surrounded by aquamarine and violet cats, have decadent tea parties with apple tarts and salt-water taffy sandwiches, and take sunset boat rides in a lake full of swans and wildflowers. Tim Walker's photographs almost make these dreams into a reality.

Welcome!

For the past couple of months I've been debating whether or not I should create a blog. I kept putting it off until that point where I started to doubt myself, wondering if by making this blog I would be criticized by people at school or judged for valuing what many people view as a highly materialistic and superficial hobby.  I believe that fashion is neither a cloak nor a facade, but instead a declaration of one's personal creativity. Through use of colors, textures, patterns, layers and shape in clothing, one can be bold in the art of self expression. I'm no expert, not yet a journalist or photographer, but rather a 17 year old girl who hopes to share this affection for fashion with anyone who happens to stop by. I'm excited to start posting my ideas, favorite things, and creative endeavors on this blog and I hope that you (whomever you may be) enjoy it too.

Until next time,
Amanda
